GOP lawmaker: Common Core will attract your kids to homosexuality
Florida state Rep. Charles Van Zant (R) says American Institutes for Research, which is in charge of developing Common Core-based test for the state is "promoting as hard as they can, any youth that is interested in the LGBT agenda."
Video has surfaced of a speech he gave in March at the Operation Education Conference in March.
"These people that will now receive $220 million from the state of Florida, unless this is stopped, will promote double-mindedness in state education and will attract every one of your children to become as homosexual as they possibly can," he said.
He finished by saying, "I’m sorry to report that to you ... I really hate to believe that news, but you need to know."
It's not the first time AIR has been the target of such accusations and previously has pushed back.
"We are not an advocacy group," AIR spokesman Larry McQuillan told PolitiFact. "AIR is a non-partisan, not-for-profit organization. We do educational assessment, research, health policy research and communication, and international development. We have supported many states by providing high-quality assessments of their specific state standards."
According to PolitiFact, "AIR does not advocate a homosexual lifestyle for children, nor is it an advocacy group at all. There is no indication that the organization or the state will have a homosexual agenda in its state testing."
